Heat-recovering apparatus for furnaces

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6159916
Inserted as a replacement section of the flue, this novel jacketed chamber acts as a heat exchanger, preheating incoming combustion air for a furnace. Fresh air is drawn through a duct into the chamber, where it is heated by the hot exhaust gases and then drawn into the combustion section of the furnace. The invention not only increases the furnace's efficiency but also reduces the building's space-heating requirements because it eliminates the cold-air inflow that normally occurs through door and window cracks during the furnace's operation.
