Fluoride complexes of aluminum in sulfate solutions

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Coordinat. Chem.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6159173
Aqueous solutions of aluminum sulfate and aluminum nitrate with additions of LiF have been studied by /sup 19/F and /sup 27/Al NMR. The formation of mono-, di-, and trifluoro complexes of aluminum has been established at LiF:Al mole ratios < 2. The ratios between the concentration formation constants of these species have been determined, and it has been found that the constants monotonically decrease from AlF x aq/sup 2 +/ t AlF/sub 3/ x aq. Aquofluorosulfato complexes appear when several aquofluoro species coexist in solutions in which the F/sup -/:Al and SO/sub 4//sup 2 -/:Al ratios are comparable.
