Further note on the Kolmogorov-von Karman product and the values of the constants

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6158045
New estimates of the Kolmogorov and von Karman constants, ..cap alpha../sub 1/ and k, have recently been reported by Dyer and Bradley (1982) and by Dyer and Hicks (1982). These values, based on data originally recorded for other purposes during the International Turbulence Comparison Experiment held in Australia in 1976, imply a magnitude of the Kolmogorov-von Karman product, ..cap alpha../sub 1/k/sup 4/3/, somewhat at variance with that measured by a special add-on experiment conducted over the same site only a few days after the ITCE-76 program had been completed. These last results are presented here in combination with earlier data collected in a similar experiment carried out in 1968. Both data sets are summarized in a form which provides an improved value of the K-von K product. In part, this note explains results listed with little comment in a paper on a related topic which appeared in an earlier Turbulence Symposium Preprint.
