The reaction of the heteropoly anions (HPA) PM/sub 11/TiO/sub 40//sup 5 -/ (M = W, Mo) with hydrogen peroxide has been investigated. It has been demonstrated by /sup 31/P, /sup 17/O, and /sup 185/W NMR spectrophotometry that complexes with an HPA:H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ ratio equal to 1 form as a result of the reaction in solution, the peroxide group being attached to the titanium atom. The cesium and tetramethylammonium salts of the complexes have been isolated. The IR spectra of the solid salts, which differ from the spectra of PW/sub 12/O/sub 40//sup 3 -/ and the original complex in the 600-800-cm/sup 1 -/ region were recorded for M = W. The cesium salt of the complex PW/sub 11/(TiO/sub 2/)O/sub 39//sup 5 -/ is stable up to a temperature of 250/sup 0/C. On the basis of the results of the investigations it has been concluded that the Ti-O/sub 2//sup 2 -/ bond formed is stronger in the case of M = W.
