A 1000 ton/day steel barge-mounted ammonia plant with Quality Assurance from Lloyds Register of Shipping and Det Norske Veritas has been designed for use in Pakistan by Swedyards Corp., Swedyards International Inc., Haldor Topsoe A/S, and Haldor Topsoe Inc. It has a 115.5 m over-all length (exclusive of the mooring arm) and is 74 m wide. The ammonia produced is stored at 1 atm and -33/sup 0/C in four storage tanks (total capacity 20,000 tons) insulated with polyurethane foam covered with aluminum foil and supported by wooden stanchions. The barge is moored to a single anchor leg storage buoy. To utilize the gas from a well located 60 mi from the coast, a barge-mounted unit with all necessary facilities delivered to the site has an estimated cost about 25-30Vertical Bar3< less than the corresponding land-based plant with all necessary offsites, including a pipeline. The barge-mounted plant can easily exploit a small natural gas deposit, and move to another location when the deposit is exhausted; associated gas from oil fields can also be used instead of being flared.
