A bill, H.R.2372, was introduced in the House of Representatives on May 16, 1989 to provide jurisdiction and procedures for claims for compassionate payments for injuries due to exposure to radiation from nuclear testing. The bill calls for the establishment of a procedure to make partial restitution to individuals exposed to fallout from the government's above-ground nuclear tests in Nevada, as well as miners who were put at risk in underground uranium mines that were providing uranium for the primary use and benefit of the nuclear weapons program. A trust fund to be known as the Radiation Exposure Compensation Trust Fund is established in the amount of $100,000,000 for this purpose.
