UV-sensitivity of a gas proportional counter

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6153770
This report is an account of the investigation of UV-sensitivity of a gas proportional counter. The detector used in this investigation has been developed for the observation of low-energy cosmic X-rays; i.e. 0.05-2.0 keV. A major source of background at very low energies (<0.2 keV) is due to the sensitivity of the counter to UV-radiation of stellar origin in the wavelength band 1600-3000 A. The purpose of this investigation is to establish in a quantitive way the parameters governing the UV-sensitivity of a gas proportional detector.
