Title: IR spectra of methanol and dimethyl ether adsorbed on high-silica zeolites

The results of methanol adsorption on mordenite are evidence for the formation of aliphatic chains. On ultrasil zeolite, methanol adsorption at room temperature causes methoxylation of the surface; at 523/sup 0/K and above, it forms carboxy structures that are apparently intermediates in the conversion to hydrocarbons. Analogous structures were observed during the adsorption of dimethyl ether. 5 references, 3 figures.
