Transverse quark polarization in large P/sub T/ reactions and e/sup +/e/sup -/ jets

The polarization of quarks which are scattered at large P/sub T/ in hadronic interactions or in lepto-production, or which are produced in e/sup +/e/sup -/ annihilations at high energy can be computed in quamtum chromodynamics (QCD). The predicted polarization are small, of order ..cap alpha../sub s/ m/sub quark//..sqrt..Q/sup 2/. This leads to a prediction that asymmetries for observable particles will be small at high Q/sup 2/. The prediction can be used to test QCD.
