COMPBRN IIIe: An interactive computer code for fire risk analysis

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:6148353

The computer code COMBRN has been used extensively in Probabilistic Risk Assessments to quantify fire hazards in nuclear power plants. This code, originally developed to run on a mainframe computer, provides only limited user interface, and usually bottlenecks during the input file preparation process. This work presents a new version of the code, COMPBRN IIIe, which provides a user-friendly environment and assists users in the input file preparation process. Methodology to propagate the parameter uncertainties in the COMPBRN code is presented. Probability distributions are provided for the significant parameters used in the code. An uncertainty analysis module is incorporated into this updated version of the code. Other modifications include a built-in database to assist users in selecting hard-to-find parameter values. Various physical models are updated to improve the accuracy of the computation. The objective of this work is to improve the state-of-art fire risk computer code, COMPBRN, so that any user can run the code correctly and without difficulty. With these new features and capabilities, COMPBRN IIIe can significantly reduce the time and the effort of users in the performance of a fire risk assessment.
