Journal Article

Dramatic changes have taken place in the People's Republic of China since the death, in 1976, of Mao Zedong. The relentless insistence of ideological orthodoxy has largely been pushed aside by a pragmatic, results oriented regime; foreign trade and other international contact have expanded rapidly; and the people are freer of political controls. This paper discussed the effect that these changes in the political environment have had on governmental policies which regulate environmental quality of China. 40 references.
