Title: Multipolarities of interband transitions in /sup 164/Dy via the /sup 163/Dy(d,p. gamma. ) reaction

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

Prompt ..gamma..-ray and conversion electron spectra from the (d,p) stripping reaction on an enriched /sup 163/Dy target have been measured with Ge(Li) detectors and a sweeping-current lens plus Si(Li)-detector spectrometer. Forty-one transitions were identified under 2 MeV excitation in /sup 164/Dy with the help of electron binding energy differences. Conversion coefficients were obtained and multipolarities extracted for most of the transitions associated with the K/sup ..pi../ = 0/sup +//sub g/, 2/sup +//sub ..gamma../, 2/sup -/, and 4/sup -/ bands. Reduced transition probability ratios are compared with the predictions of the adiabatic coupling scheme. The effective E0 to E2 reduced transition rates in the gamma-to-ground state band (..delta..I = 0) transitions suggest a very weak ..delta..K = 2 band mixing between the ..gamma.. band and a possible excited K = 0/sup +/ band. A mixing parameter Z/sub 2/ = 0.043 +- 0.009 is derived on the basis of the 2/sup +/ and 3/sup +//sub ..gamma../ transition rates with respect to the ground-band states.
