Production of deuterons and antideuterons with large p/sub perpendicular/ in pp and pA collisions at 70 GeV
We report measurements of the invariant cross sections for production of deuterons and antideuterons with transverse momenta in the range 0.46 less than or equal top/sub perpendicular/less than or equal to3.89 GeV/c in collisions of protons with protons and with the nuclei of Be, Cu, and Pb at 70 GeV. The cross-section ratios sigma/sub d//sigma/sub p/ and sigma/sub d-bar//sigma/sub p-bar/ are given. We also have obtained data on the yields of tritium nuclei. An analysis shows that the production of deuterons, antideuterons, and tritium nuclei with large p/sub perpendicular/ is described by the model of fusion of secondary nucleons (antinucleons) with small relative momentum. A comparison is made with data obtained at a higher energy.
