The government's need for revenues prompted an April 13, 1981 hearing to review whether Internal Revenue Service (IRS) receipts from the Windfall Profit Tax are meeting projections. The committee also heard testimony on how the tax is being administered and what effect it is having on IRS operations in other areas as well as a report on the tax collected by the US Geological Survey on oil produced on federal lands. The three major witnesses represented the General Accounting Office, IRS, and the US Geological Survey. Their testimony is followed by letters and other materials submitted for the record. Additional relevant submissions from the IRS and the Geological Survey appear in the appendix. (DCK)
