Electricity is a major cause of lost-time accidents and fatalities in the mining industry; however, most of the means of electrical injury prevention are now within the technical and practical grasp of the mining industry and should not require increased government intervention. A recent study by the US Bureau of Mines comprises a preliminary analysis of electrical accidents and an assessment of prevention methods. The article summarizes the findings of this study and of other information collected by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. 4 references.
