As part of an investigation of the spatial and electronic structure of complexes of inorganic derivatives of Sn(IV) with various heteroatomic electron donors, the authors have studied the reaction of MeSnX/sub 3/ (X = Cl, Br) with the tertiary, bidentate phosphines, Ph/sub 2/P(CH/sub 2/) /SUB n/ PPh/sub 2/ (n=1-4). In this paper on the spatial and electronic structure of complexes of tin with phosphines they have made use of /sup 31/P and /sup 119/Sn NMR spectroscopy. To confirm the stoichiometry of the complexes formed, they were separated from methylene chloride by addition of petroleum ether.
