Ion chambers for neutron dosimetry

Book ·
OSTI ID:6142382
This book presents the 36 brief technical papers and 8 summary papers which made up a 1979 workshop held in Rijswijk, The Netherlands, on the theory and use of ion chambers for fast neutron dosimetry. The initial impetus for arranging a whole international workshop on what some might consider a narrow topic came from a commendable concern over the accuracy and uniformity of fast neutron dosimetry and a perceived need to establish a standardized dosimetric protocol at the various hospitals which have already given more than 3000 patients fast neutron radiotherapy. The ultimate goal of this neutron dosimetry research effort, as expressed by Broerse, is to seek an accuracy of +- 5% in doses to clinical targets. The goal is properly regarded as a severe requirement unlikely to be achieved before 5 years of intensive effort. This book documents the state of the efforts made to achieve this goal.
