Combining decision support tools and knowledge-based approach for the development of an integrate system for regional energy planning
- National Technical Univ. of Athens (Greece)
Regional energy planning constitutes a complex decision-making process which involves a multitude of operations. This paper presents the design and development of an integrated system for supporting, in a structured and efficient way, the decisions and corresponding actions performed in the process of regional energy planning. The main advantage of the system is that it provides a unified framework which incorporates a wide range of decision support tools together with a domain knowledge base. It actually consists of six major components: the Data Base, the Model Base, the Multicriteria Evaluation Tools, the Domain Specific Knowledge Base, and the Coordination and Reporting Components. The proposed system was used for developing an application concerning the construction of the energy plan of the region of Lesvos in Greece, the results of which are presented in this paper.
