Development of magnetic filters for the primary-coolant circuit of a PWR

This paper presents results of on reactor and laboratory loop testing of high-gradient magnetic filters for application to the primary-coolant circuit of a pressurized-water reactor. Testing has progressed to the point that a large-scale prototype filter of approximately 450T/h capacity is planned for installation on the US DOE N Reactor in 1985. Selected results of this test program are presented including filter efficiency with respect to flow and field strength and analysis of collected reactor crud. General design parameters for a full-scale filter are presented.
