Starting from the nonequilibrium theory of dirty superconductors in the Ginzburg-Landau regime, spatially homogeneous states with an applied current I = I/sub 0/ + I/sub 1/ cos(omega t) are considered. Expressions for the linear response (I/sub 1/ small) valid up to high frequencies (h omega << k/sub B/T/sub c/) are derived and evaluated analytically for the experimentally important case of small I/sub 0/ and h omega << ..delta../sub 0/(T). Then the nonlinear response is treated for frequencies with omega tau/sub E/ << 1. Interesting new behavior is found for frequencies omega tau/sub 0/ approx. 1, where tau/sub 0/ is essentially the GL relaxation time.
