Burner construction and method of making the same

A burner construction is described having a cup-shaped housing member provided with a closed end having a substantially flat outer surface and an open end interconnected together by side wall means that has burner port means for issuing fuel from an interior chamber of the housing member. An adapter member is secured to the housing member to close the open end and has inlet means for directing fuel from a source into the chamber of the housing member. The improvement comprises a flame sensing means having a portion disposed in the chamber of the housing member and having opposed ends one of which is secured to the closed end of the housing member and extends outwardly beyond the flat outer surface and the other of which is disposed outside the members. The method of makes a burner construction form a cup-shaped housing member with a closed end having a substantially flat outer surface and an open end interconnected together by side wall means that has burner port means for issuing fuel from an interior chamber of the housing member. Forming an adapter member, it secures the adapter member to the housing member to close the open end and have an inlet means for directing fuel from a source into the chamber of the housing member forming a flame sensing means to have a portion disposed in the chamber of the housing member and have opposed ends. This secures one of the ends to the closed end of the housing member, and disposing the other of the ends outside the members. The improvement secures one end of the flame sensing means to the closed end of the housing member extending the one end outwardly beyond the flat outer surface of the closed end of the housing member.
