The maximum-entropy principle, which expresses a constraint on the solution to an inverse problem defined by a system of linear equations, is explained. The maximum-entropy principle makes it possible to raise the resolution of an instrument a posteriori and to reconstruct tomographic images from a truncated set of projections.
