When PuF/sub 6/ is excited in the 800 nm region, fluorescence peaked at 2.296 ..mu..m with less intense peaks at 2.207 and 2.126 ..mu..m is observed. Unlike the previous works that reported no self-quenching of the 2.3 ..mu..m LIF of PuF/sub 6/, our data indicate a pressure dependence for the 2.3 ..mu..m LIF lifetime with a self-quenching rate constant of 162 +- 4 Torr/sup -1/ s/sup -1/ and a collision-free lifetime of 218 +- 5 ..mu..s. Both fluorescence and excitation spectra are in good agreement with the previously reported absorption spectrum of PuF/sub 6/.
