In connection with the authors interest in the mechanism(s) of the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of thiophenes on heterogeneous catalyst. They have explored various modes of thiophene (T) coordination in transition-metal complexes. In a previous report, they described the synthesis of the complex Cp*(CO){sub 2}Re(T) in which the thiophene (T) was S-coordinated to the rhenium. In this communication, they report the analogous selenophene (Sel) complex Cp*(CO){sub 2}Re(Sel) in which the selenophene is 2,3-{eta}{sup 2}-coordinated to the metal.
