Records are presented of analysis of starting materials and products of the vapor-phase chambers processing middle oils from coal, tar, and petroleum fractions in the ratio 65:35 for original material:recycled material. The major materials analyzed were the starting material injected, the total liquid product, the gasoline and middle-oil fractions distilled from it, the water formed in the reaction, and the various gases arising at all points of the process. As examples of the data collected are some entries from the February 8 table. The starting material had specific gravity 0.85 at 20/sup 0/C, aniline point of +55.9/sup 0/, phenol content of 0.01 g/100 m/sup 3/, and boiling endpoint of 331/sup 0/C. For the three chambers surveyed, the corresponding data bits for the total liquid product showed ranges of 0.750 to 0.755, +53.8/sup 0/ to +54.7/sup 0/, no listed content of phenols, and 262/sup 0/C to 274/sup 0/C (actual cutoff point for gasoline distillation was 165/sup 0/C, by which point 53.5% to 60.0% had boiled). For the gasoline fraction, the yield was 57.0% to 62.7% by weight, specific gravity was 0.727 to 0.734, percent of aromatics and olefins was 7.0% to 8.5%, percent of naphthenes was 39.5% to 40.0%, percent of paraffins was 51.5% to 53.0%, octane number by motor method was 70.4 to 71.4 without lead and 90.1 to 90.4 with lead, and percent boiling up to 100/sup 0/C was 43% to 47%. The various gases had their compositions given in terms of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen, and the following hydrocarbons: C/sub 1/, C/sub 2/H/sub 4/, C/sub 2/H/sub 6/, C/sub 3/H/sub 8/, C/sub 3/H/sub 6/, iC/sub 4/H/sub 10/, nC/sub 4/H/sub 10/, iC/sub 4/H/sub 8/, nC/sub 4/H/sub 8/, C/sub 5/, etc. 3 tables.
