Timescale for projectile breakup into coincident heavy fragments

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6128578
The reaction of /sup 35/Cl + Ta at 680 MeV has been studied with a system able to detect coincidences between projectile-like particles of charge Z greater than or equal to 3. We have observed coincidences between all possible pairs of Z=3 to Z=8 fragments and have measured the energy correlations of the coincident fragments. These correlations show the production mechanism to be sequential projectile breakup. 13 references.
