Small-scale demonstration of Hydraulic Capsule Pipeline (HCP). Project completion report, July 1, 1980-May 31, 1981
The study of Hydraulic Capsule Pipeline (HCP) shows that from both economic and energy-conservation standpoints, HCP is competitive with other modes of freight transportation. It has been shown that as the level of automation increases, HCP becomes more economical. The present report describes research to build a small-scale demonstration model of HCP. The model is a 1-1/4 pipe loop equipped with capsule injectors, ejectors, pumps, and conveyor belts that carry capsules to injectors. Capsules can be either injected into the loop and retrieved downstream automatically, or recirculated in the loop. The system has been operated many times with little difficulties, and has been demonstrated to the public and interested visitors.
