The method of microscopic calculation of hypernuclei with a realistic ..lambda..N interaction is developed. It is shown that the ..lambda..+core model and the model of collective motion of the hypernuclear baryons cannot give the correct value of the ..lambda..-particle separation energy B/sub ..lambda../. The starting point in the present method is the introduction of a collective variable of the nucleons rho and the distance of the ..lambda.. particle to the center of the nucleons rho/sub ..lambda../ (or a universal collective variable for all the particles). Then the physical basis for the NN and ..lambda..N interactions is constructed in the space of multidimensional angles. The /sup 5//sub ..lambda../He hypernucleus is used as an example to study the convergence of the ..lambda..N-potential harmonic expansion for different amplitudes and radii of the ..lambda..N potential. The probability for the presence of the ..lambda.. particle to excite the collective and single-particle degrees of freedom of the core is estimated. It is shown that the dominant contribution comes from single-particle excitations of nucleons with zero orbital angular momentum.
