Treated sewage supplies cooling lake

Cycle-heat rejection at Platte River Power Authority's new Rawhide plant is accomplished by once-through cooling, using an artificial 500-acre lake. Because of a shortage of ground and surface water, primary water supply for the lake is treated effluent from a nearby sewage-treatment plant. Nevertheless, the lake has been designed to be fully compatible with the environment. The operating experience of the cooling system is discussed.
