Comparison of Grude and Luxmasse as catalyst carriers in hydrogenation of cracking residues at 600 atm in a 100-liter oven (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6122136
The catalysts compared in this experiment were brown-coal gas-generator dust (carbonization coke, called in German Grude) sprayed with 10% FeSO/sub 4/ and dried and an impure form of iron oxide (called in German Luxmasse) sprayed wth 0.2% MoO/sub 3/ and dried. The code names for the catalysts were K6612, Ch 12 and K6954, respectively. The catalyst operated in both runs of the experiment on a 1:1 mixture of cracking residues from raw petroleum and from gas oil. The iron-coke catalyst was much better than the other in several respects, including yields of gasoline and middle oil (0.722 vs. 0.466 kg/liter/hr), losses to gas formation (12.1% vs. 14.7%), decomposition of asphalts (93.8% vs. 89.9%) and amount of sludge residue to be processed (15.2% vs. 23.3%). Another difficulty with the Luxmasse catalyst was that, even though it was very finely ground to begin with, it tended to agglomerate in the oven into lumps that were too big to be carried out of the oven by the gas flow. This report concluded that Poelitz should avoid using Luxmasse as a catalyst carrier. 1 table.
