Stability of chromium(V) doped target materials containing borane-ammonia and amines. Summary

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6118994
Stability of the EHBA-Cr(V) complex (sodium bis(2-ethyl-2-hydroxybutanoato-(2-))oxochromate(V)) in methylamine, ethylamine, propylamine, sec-butylamine and ammonia in the presence of borane-ammonia, BH/sub 3/:NH/sub 3/ (0 to 20% w/w) has been followed spectrophotometrically between -30/sup 0/ to -65/sup 0/C. It has been observed that even a small amount of BH/sub 3/:NH/sub 3/ (<5% wt) can substantially retard chromium(V) disproportionation (decomposition) into chromium(VI) and chromium(III), and thus enable preparation of chromium(V) doped glasses (targets) within practical temperature (-45/sup 0/ to -50/sup 0/C) and time (30 to 60 min) limits. 4 references, 2 figures, 1 table.
