As a part of a cooperative effort with the US Geological Survey and the Department of Energy, 72-hour constant drawdown and 3-hour stepped drawdown aquifer performance tests were carried out at a nest of wells near Miller's Pond, GA. The tests are part of a study on ground water flow in the Savannah River Site area. For each test, one well was pumped, and drawdown in that well and in as many as three other observation wells was measured. The test data were analyzed to determine well efficiency, transmissivity, and the extent of hydraulic interconnection between aquifer units. The analysis of the step drawdown tests utilized the Theis method (1935) and Jacob straight line method (1946) to determine transmissivity and the Van Everdingen method (1953) to determine the skin factors of the pumped well. Preliminary results indicate transmissivity values of 0.00174 m[sup 2]/s (162 ft[sup 2]/day) for the lower part of the Midville Aquifer, 0.000375 m[sup 2]/s (394 ft[sup 2]/day) for the upper part of the Midville Aquifer, 0.00658 m[sup 2]/s (612 ft[sup 2]/day) for the Allendale Confining Unit, and 0.000238 m[sup 2]/s (221 ft[sup 2]/day) for the Upper Floridan Aquifer. The 72-hour tests will be analyzed to determine effects of leakance across confining units and partial well penetration as well as for transmissivity within the aquifer. A numerical model of the test data will be developed to further investigate aquifer characteristics at the well site.
