The ordered intermetallic titanium aluminides, particularly Ti{sub 3}Al ({alpha}{sub 2}) and TiAl ({gamma}) based alloys, have attractive specific properties at elevated temperatures. These attractive properties imply that titanium aluminides will be exposed to hostile high-temperature environmental which can be hydrogen ranging all the way from cryogenic liquid hydrogen to elevated temperature high-pressure gaseous hydrogen. Most of the research on hydrogen effects in titanium aluminides have been focused on microstructural changes either by low-pressure gaseous hydrogen charging at elevated temperatures or cathodic hydrogen charging at room temperature. However, the process of hydrogen uptake in {gamma}-based alloys in a high-pressure of hydrogen gas has not yet been reported. This paper investigates the process of hydrogen uptake in {gamma}-based titanium aluminides by means of thermogravimetric measurements at a hydrogen pressure of 10 MPa.
