Recently, Fe-high Mn alloys undergoing non-thermoelastic {gamma} {yields} {epsilon} martensitic transformation have been paid considerable attention due to their potential in high damping applications. In a previous work the authors have reported that the damping capacity of Fe-17%Mn alloy is linearly dependent on the amount of {epsilon} martensite. The present study is intended to investigate the strain amplitude dependence of the damping capacity on the amount of {epsilon} martensite in an Fe-17% Mn alloy, since various strain amplitudes may lead to the different dependences of damping capacity on the amount of {epsilon} martensite. For this investigation, they measured the damping capacity in a wide range of 1 {times} 10{sup {minus}4} to 10 {times} 10{sup {minus}4} strain amplitude for the Fe-17%Mn alloy, the {epsilon} martensite content of which was varied from 35% to 79% by cooling at various temperatures between room temperature (25 C) and liquid nitrogen temperature ({minus}196 C).
