A brief historical perspective of quality assurance and quality control in the US nuclear industry, as well as the current status and future trends, are presented. QA pervades all facets of engineering, procurement, construction, and plant modifications, as well as plant operations. The US could, however, be leading the world in nuclear plant availability through better quality workmanship.
