Geothermal studies in Antarctica

This report summarized some of the geothermal studies with Dry Valley Drilling Project drill holes. Data included subsurface temperatures, thermal conductivities, and three preliminary heat flow values. Subsurface temperatures were measured at discrete points in the holes with thermistor probes in combination with three lead cables, Wheatstone-type bridges, and electronic null-detectors. Temperature data for selected drill holes was plotted. Thermal conductivities were measured with the divided-bar systems and techniques described by Decker. Existing basic heat flow data for holes 3, 6, and 14 was tabulated. 2 figures.
