Measurement of the decay [tau][sup [minus]][r arrow][pi][sup [minus]][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]]2[pi][sup 0][nu][sub [tau]]

The decay [tau][sup [minus]][r arrow][pi][sup [minus]][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]]2[pi][sup 0][nu][sub [tau]] has been observed in [ital e][sup +][ital e[minus]] annihilation using the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. In a data sample collected at [radical][ital s] [similar to]10.6 GeV, 668[plus minus]38 decay candidates have been identified by exclusively reconstructing two [pi][sup 0]'s accompanying three charged particles, which are assumed to be pions. Normalizing to the number of [tau] pairs detected with one charged particle recoiling against three charged particles, this yields a branching ratio of [ital B][sub 3[pi]2[pi]][sup 0]=(0.48[plus minus]0.04[plus minus]0.04)%. A signal of 430[plus minus]33 events for the decay [tau][sup [minus]][r arrow][pi][sup [minus]][omega][pi][sup 0][nu][sub [tau]] has also been observed, corresponding to a branching ratio of [ital B][sub [pi][omega][pi]][sup 0]=(0.39[plus minus]0.04[plus minus]0.04)%.
