Security Pacific Bank in California installed a $17 million 7.8 Mw cogeneration plant in a new operations center that is saving about $340,000 a month in avoided gas and electricity costs. The plant should have a payback period of under six years. The plant runs 24 hours every day of the year. A standby gas alternator turbine set, including a boost burner and heat recovery steam generation, provides an additional 4.8 Mw of backup capacity to protect the mainframe computers in the center from power outages. A Trane Tracer computerized monitoring system is an integral part of the cogeneration system.
