These proceedings contain papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Dense Z{minus}Pinches held in May 1997 in Vancouver, Canada. The conference covered the latest developments in the knowledge of the Z{minus}pinch. The topics discussed included fusion and alternate concepts, superpower generators, radiation hydrodynamics, special pinches and laser schemes, spectroscopy, and stability. Among the most powerful pulse generators, the PBFA{minus}Z machine at Sandia National Laboratories is discussed, whose record{minus}shattering radiation output is being studied at Sandia and collaborating laboratories elsewhere. This conference was sponsored in part by the United States Department of Energy`s Sandia and Los Alamos National laboratories. There were 114 papers presented at the conference and 16 have been abstracted for the Energy Science and Technology database.(AIP)
