Precision measurements of solid /sup 3/He magnetic susceptibility

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6100477
High-precision magnetic susceptibility measurements on solid /sup 3/He samples ranging in molar volumes from 21.0 to 24.0 mL/mole have been made from approx. =16 mK to 510 mK in a low magnetic field (17.1 mT). New values of the Curie-Weiss temperature theta have been determined and are found to be nearly a factor of two smaller than the values from all previous susceptibility measurements. These new values of theta, however, are in good agreement with P(T,H) measurements which leads to satisfactory thermodynamic consistency between these two types of experiments. Description of a double-sample-cell measuring technique and the use of Fourier-Transform pulsed NMR spectroscopy are given. 18 references, 6 figures, 1 table.
