Order parameter modes, zero sound, and symmetries in superfluid /sup 3/He

In this paper the author uses methods of linear response theory to discuss the consequences of gauge invariance, rotation invariance, reflection invariance, time reversal invariance, and approximate particle-hole symmetry for the coupling between order parameter modes and zero sound. The utility of zero sound as a probe of superfluid /sup 3/He results from its coupling to collective modes of the superfluid order parameter with dispersion relations of the form omega/sup 2/ = a..delta..(t)/sup 2/ + b(qv/sub F/)/sup 2/, where a and b are weakly temperature dependent functions of order one. 19 references.
