Actuator means for the control of a refrigeration system expansion valve

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6098197
A regulating system is described for a refrigeration installation of the type having a compressor, condenser an an evaporator arranged in series and first and second electrical temperature sensors at the inlet and outlet ends of the evaporator. The first sensor is positioned to respond to the temperature of a liquid refrigeration expanded to suction pressure and the second sensor being positioned to respond to suction line sensible temperature. The regulating system, consists of thermostatic valve means for controlling the flow of refrigerant to the evaporator having an actuator chamber filled with a refrigerant medium having liquid an vapor phases, and electrical heat supply element in the actuator chamber. An electrical feedback in the actuator chamber, control means connected to the sensors and the elements for generating a superheat error signal for controlling the temperature of the refrigerant medium, and means for utilizing the first sensor to determine a reference start value for the valve means corresponding to the opening pressure of the refrigerant medium in the actuator chamber.
