Properties of iron-doped lanthanum chromite

Journal Article · · Inorg. Mater. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

This paper reports the effect of iron doping on the structural, electrical, and thermophysical properties of the most conductive rare-earth chromite, La/sub 0.8/Ca/sub 0.2/CrO/sub 3/. According to DTA, TG, and DTG studies, mixed phases of La/sub 0.8/Ca/sub 0.2/Cr/sub 1-x/Fe/sub x/O/sub 3/ (x = 0-1.0) with a perovskite structure begin to form above 1100 K. The cubic perovskite structure was found to be slightly deformed. Lattice parameters increased linearly with a rise in iron content. Doping of La/sub 0.8/Ca/sub 0.2/CrO/sub 3/ with iron markedly increased the former's conductivity at high temperatures and lowered its thermal expansion coefficient.
