Isoscalar monopole and dipole strength between 10 and 20 MeV in /sup 24/Mg from inelastic. cap alpha. scattering at and around 0/sup 0/

Differential cross sections for inelastic ..cap alpha.. scattering from /sup 24/Mg in the region of 10--20 MeV excitation have been measured at E/sub ..cap alpha../ = 120 MeV in the angular range of 0--8/sup 0/. The strength distribution for isoscalar monopole and dipole strength in /sup 24/Mg between 11--20 MeV was determined. 90 +- 20% of the E0 energy-weighted sum rule and 56 +- 12% of the E1, ..delta..T = 0 energy-weighted sum rule are found to be exhausted in this excitation energy region.
