Codell sandstone - new exploration play, Denver basin

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6095011
The Codell sandstone member of the Carlile formation is a new exploration target for hydrocarbons in the Denver basin. Recently designated as a tight gas sand, the Codell has permeabilities of less than 0.5 md; initial potential production volumes from the new discoveries range from 200,000 to 1.1 million CF/day and 11-300 bbl/day of oil or condensate. Large portions of the Codell overlie mature fields that produce from other sandstones. Recompletion of the existing wells to allow production from the Codell appears to be the most cost-effective exploration procedure for the marginally commercial areas.
