Dwarf spheroidal galaxy in Draco. I. New BV photometry

Journal Article · · Astron. J.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1086/112522· OSTI ID:6093826
New photoelectric photometry for 39 stars and new photographic photometry for 514 stars in the field of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy are presented. The color-magnitude diagram displays a red giant branch whose observed width is comparable to the accidental photometric error, and a well-defined red horizontal branch. A more diffuse sequence of stars lies approx.0/sup m/.1 to the blue of the giant branch. An upper horizontal branch of more massive core helium-burning stars may also be present. Some derived parameters are: (m-M)/sub 0/=19/sup m/.4, (B-V)/sub 0,g/approx. =0/sup m/.77, ..delta..V=2/sup m/.9, S=5.7.
