Kinetics and substrate selectivity of hydroxylation of arenes by trifluoroperoxyacetic acid in CH/sub 2/Cl/sub 2/ and CCl/sub 4/ solutions

The kinetics and substrate selectivity of hydroxylation of arenes by trifluoroperoxyacetic acid in CH/sub 2/Cl/sub 2/ and CCl/sub 4/ solutions were studied. The data obtained lead to the supposition that in both of the systems studied, the reaction includes the formation of an arenonium ion at the limiting stage.
