Mechanical shock test specification using nonstationary random excitation models

A test specification procedure is described which characterizes an operational mechanical shock environment in terms of the parameters of a nonstationary random process. These parameters define the shock test input which will be applied to a structure in the laboratory using an electro-dynamic shaker. Both the model and the procedure for identifying the model parameters are described. The technique is demonstrated by deriving test specifications from both simulated and actual shock data. The method provides a test specification technique which will allow more realistic simulation of actual mechanical shock environments in the laboratory. 10 refs., 8 figs., 2 tabs.
