Sheep and goats are sensitive to the poisonous effects of lead. The most usual way of penetration is the digestive tract. In these species, lead-intoxications may take a chronic course showing only slight clinical signs, or an acute form with more apparent symptoms. Saturnism is often associated with other pathological findings, especially parasitism. Treatment by EDTA is difficult to apply. Preventive measures are preferred.
