Benchmark comparison of three supercomputers - Fujitsu VP-200, Hitachi S810/20, and Cray X-MP/2
Benchmark tests have been conducted to establish the comparative performance capabilities of the Japanese VP-200 and S810/20 vector-processor supercomputers, which are the first such hardware systems to be produced outside the U.S., to have an IBM instruction set, and to incorporate vendor-supplied interactive tools to aid in the process of Fortran code vectorization. Attention is given to architectural differences between these two Japanese supercomputers and a comparable American system, the Cray X-MP/2, as well as to scalar performance and basic vector operations. The S810/20 is noted to perform less well than the other two systems with the benchmark codes employed in the present tests. 8 references.
